Safely Trans Outside
Public art Mural at Gambia Street, London UK
blkmoodyboi asks “what does it mean to be safe outside?” by sharing a message of solidarity. They also reflect on the experience of communities that must consider how they move in a space."
Commissioned by Tate Modern, Beyond Boundaries is a project that explored our connection with space and art in a time where we had to be separated for our own safety. How do we re-engage with art collectively after being apart?
Tate Modern and Bankside aim to answer this question by hosting a series of public artworks
Tate Collective Producers invited five young and emerging artists to produce artworks in the Bankside neighbourhood to help people reconnect with art. These works invite you explore our community individually and collectively
blkmoodyboi invites us to take a few steps back and question 'who even has the right to access art publicly?' not all of us can do so. In fact many Transgender people cannot walk safely in the streets let alone take space in an art institution. It is because of this that they chose to give a clear and concise message 'To be Safely Trans outside'
This project is curatorially led by Tate Young People's Programme.
Beyond Boundaries is a collaboration between Tate Collective and Better Bankside.
The pieces were painted productions by the artist team of Absolutely Studio.
Tate Collective is supported by Jean and Melanie Salata with additional support from Garfield Weston Foundation, The Rothschild Foundation, and Tate Patrons.
